fitness_nutrition_med.jpgAt Active Health and Wellness in Boise, we know that proper nutrition is one of the key elements to well-rounded wellness and weight management strategy. Our chiropractor, Dr. Jason Watson, knows that managing the nutrients that our bodies receive is imperative for it to function at peak performance. Here are some tips to help your body get all the nutrients it needs for you to live a life of well-being.

Healthy Eating Tips from Our Chiropractic Clinic

Omega-3 fatty acids. The nutritional value of consuming a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids are too numerous to list. Despite their overwhelming nutritional benefit, many people do not consume enough salmon, walnuts and flax seed to make a difference in their diet. At our clinic we suggest Antartic Krill Oil as an omega-3 fatty acid supplement.
Eat a diet rich in vegetables and fruits. Sadly, most people turn to salty, fatty and carbohydrate laden foods before they will choose leafy greens or bright, fresh fruit. Yet it is the fruit and vegetables that provide your body with the fiber, natural sugar and nutrients that it cannot get elsewhere.
Drink plenty of fluids. Water should be your drink of choice, but unfortunately too many people still rely on caffeine and carbonated beverages. While there are some small nutritional benefits to having a small amount of coffee each day, supplementing your diet with fruit juice instead of water is just adding calories to your diet without any of the fiber that is found in fruit.
Watch your portion size. It is not just at fast food restaurants where we see super-sizing going on. Even in our own kitchens, plates are being loaded up with far more food than the average person needs at a meal. Consider eating your meal from a smaller plate to limit your portion size, or fill your plate as you normally would, then remove half of it before eating. Limiting portion size is one of the best weight management strategies available. Our Boise chiropractor can show you what proper portion sizes are if you are in doubt.

Our bodies need proper nutrition to thrive, but getting it is not always easy. Hopefully these tips will help you find your path to a healthy diet, but if you have more questions, please do not hesitate to call us.
